We excitedly left Manila January 8, 2011, geared up and ready for 5 days of Boracay fun. How fortunate that though not in Kalibo, we were not spared the revelry, the streetdancing, and the noise of the Ati-Atihan. The dancers, the musicians, and the adoring crowd paraded throughout the beach while moving to the rhythmic beats of the drums. Having caught one of the dancers, he gamely joined us in a photo-op.

After days of swimming in the sun, island hopping, boat and jetski rides, and stuffing ourselves with 'paluto' of fresh seafood at D' Talipapa, we didn't want to go back to Manila. Oh why is it always difficult to leave Boracay?

Dumating na dito sa Pilipinas sina Achie (sis-in-law) and Josh (pamangkin) from New Jersey for a short vacation, kasama ko sila from Tuesday until Friday. A much needed break for me and nakasama ko pa sila.

Dumugo ang ilong ko kaka-english kay Josh at kakaintindi ng kapampangan sa mga relatives ni Achie.

* Breakfast kami sa room, kinain namin yung mga binili ko Aristocrat kahapon

* Punta Greenhills for Josh to see La Salle, my Kuya's alma mater
* Kain sa Gerry’s Grill
* Meet ni Achie school friends nya, kami ni Josh ikot na sa greenhills mall
* Foot massage kami ni Josh
* Iniwan namin Achie sa Greenhills, tapos kami ni Josh uwi and checkin sa Intercon
* French toast and pancake dinner at Heaven and Eggs
* Massage sa room (outside service kasi pag yung sa hotel masseur kinuha namin, 3 thousand ba naman, kanila na lang!)

Binigyan kami ni Papiyo ng Gift Certificate for an overnight stay at Manila Diamond Hotel which we availed of last weekend. Tamang-tama kasi it was our anniversary. Mahal kaya ng GC (P15k) kaya I thought of selling it then stay longer at a less expensive hotel or lustayin ang pera sa movies and food. Naisip ko na nga ang mga oorderin ko sa Teriyaki Boy eh. Kaso no one wanted to buy my GC so off we went to Manila Diamond. We checked in an Executive Suite on the 15th floor na pamatay ang view-- overlooking Manila Bay and Roxas Blvd. Gusto ko nga lang tumunganga by the window while wishing na sana dito na lang ako nakatira :)

Ordered Chicken Barbecue sa Aristocrat at nagkamay akong kumain by the window

Overload sa breakfast buffet. Specially loved the baked potato and ensaymada

Paulit-ulit na nagbabad sa bathtub. Request pa nga ako additional Bubble Bath eh

Best cheesecake I ever tasted, better than New York's and Cheesecake Factory's pa. Presentation pa lang, panalo na! But very expensive, P500 for capuccino and 1 slice of cake.

Received letter of acceptance via our guard sa subdivision. Apparently, tinamad ata kartero kaya iniwan na lang sa guardhouse. That explains why lapit na pasukan wala pa letter ko. Dahil makapal ang sulat, I knew I made it.

4. first choice mo ba ang UP?
Yup, my dream school!

5. San ka pa nag-apply?
I also was accepted at Ateneo kaso layo ng tuition, P200 sa UP, P2,000 sa Ateneo at that time. Besides, I felt UP was the better school, he he.

6. ano ang first choice mo na course?
Accounting sana but since quota course yon, I decided to take up AB Socio then BS Stat in the meantime, then shift later to BSBAA. To shift, I needed at least 1.75 average, I did better with 1.4 but the college was not admitting at that time, so I shifted to BS Math and tada! Graduated a nerd, he he

7. Best experience?
Hanging out with the Frating Beauties at the tambayans, lagoon and the dorm. Crushes siempre, uuuuy! And realizing madami pala kaming matatalino, he he

Lines, lines, and long lines. Joined the RVC just to avoid the nightmare. And realizing that madami pala mas matalino kesa sa akin, nyok

I was inside the classroom, may nag-rumble sa labas, nagbatuhan, nabasag salamin sa classroom, tinamaan ako ng basag na salamin sa paa, konting hiwa at dugo lang naman.

Prof. Cejalvo for my Math 54. Sa sobrang terror, when my classmates found out sya teacher, nag-drop lahat except 10. Kalagitnaan, 3 na lang kami sa klase.

10. Pinakamabait na teacher?
I forgot her name but I remember her face. She’s my teacher in Solid Geometry. It’s my favorite subject kaya I excelled. When I took another math course under her, she was so concerned when I got low grades.

Yup, Abstract Algebra, di ko talaga nakayanan, grabe. When I took it again, madali lang pala. Sometimes, nasa teacher din eh

May bagong CD is Babyface, the title is Playlist. Revival of old familiar songs. Gustong-gusto ko sya when it was advertised on TV so as soon as I get the chance, bibili ako nito. Gusto ko ngayon na nga eh. Parang kating-kati ako lumarga at maglibot, even go to the grocery and spend at least 2 hours there until I memorize which items are in what aisle. I like groceries, I like hardware stores, I like home depots. Just leave me there for at least half a day and I would be happy. Buying only a few but making kalkal everything.

I was just at our reunion last night, went to see old friends from work. One came all the way from California. We had dinner at Something Fishy where I ate my favorite ginataang kuhol(yey!). Not all were able to come dahil daming excuses but the people who were there were the ones really close to me. Na-miss ko na sila. I really enjoyed my work at the software house moreso because of them. After saturday work, gimik time, mostly eating and bowling till the wee hours of the morning. Ang saya! I was closer to the guys than the girls though. Ewan ko bakit, maybe because it was easier to be friends with them, less maarte and straight to the point pag kausap mo. Also, they tend to take care of you, bringing your dala, taking you home, asking where you like to eat, where you like to go, ganun.

Anyways, after the dinner and we went our separate ways, I felt sad. Parang you lose the homey feel of familiarity and friends. Ganun din when the diwatas left, kakalungkot naman. But then you move on knowing you'll be seeing them again one day. Then you're back to the daily grind of life, hmmm

Cebu, Queen of the South

Volunteer na naman! It's now the 11th Drugstore owners (hindi druglords ha) Association of the Philippines Convention. The venue is the majestic Cebu Waterfront hotel located in Lahug kaya napadpad naman ako sa lugar na ito. Cebu is great, food is fresh and delicious, transport is easy with jeepneys and honest taxi drivers (na nagbibigay pa talaga ng sukli ha unlike in Manila, automatic tip na nila yon bukod pa sa nagpapadagdag, nye). Pagod na naman pero sulit because our group (Registration Commitee) did well, clap clap clap!!!

Went to the 5:30pm mass but it was in Cebuano. Waited to see if the next mass will be in English or Tagalog, pero cebuano pa rin, nye!

The new Marcelo Fernan Bridge said to be the world’s longest center span extra dosed cable stayed bridge (ano daw???) connecting Mactan Island to Cebu City

Upon arrival at Ceu on Sunday, we immediately looked for a food place, he he We ate at the famous SuTuKil (Su is for sugba or grilled, tu is for tula or prepared into a soup and kil is for kilaw or turned into a raw fish salad) where you choose the freshest seafood and have the restaurant prepare them to your liking.

My favorite was sweet and sour lapu-lapu although all the food we ate was so good owing to the fact that the seafood was indeed very fresh.

One of the few harpist I encountered, sa Cebu ko pa nakita. Pwede pa nga mag-request. Manong is a regular musician at the Manna Sutukil restaurant.

March - Tuloy ang Kasal

Dahil sa dumating ang Mamu nung March, kailangan na isiksik sa konting panahon ang mga dapat mangyari tulad na lamang na kasal ni Sister. Ilan beses ng nag-expire ang kanyang marriage license dahil inaantay nga ang pagdating ni Mommy last year pa. It was a simple civil ceremony at kami-kami lang talaga ng nandun, kapuso at kapamilya lamang. Ang ninong nga nila eh si Switham eh :) Notice na kami nina Josie, Mommy, and Switham eh nakaputi... wala lang... para feeling wedding talaga :)

April - Garage Sale

Ipina-rent na ang bahay namin sa Monte Vista so we had to dispose of most the things na nandun. Di na kasi kasya sa mga bahay-bahay namin ni Josie. Nagmistulang bodega na nga ang itsura ng apartment namin ni Switham, may washing machine sa dining area, at may aircon unit sa sahig sa sala. Kay Josie din ganun. There are some things na di namin talaga ipagbibili like the piano, dining set, etc. Pero maraming mga anik-anik (small items) that we decided to sell sa murang halaga lamang. Plates and glasswares at 10 pesos each. Silverware for 5 pesos lamang. Nakakalungkot to let go of some of the things pero naisip ko, itatago ko rin lang naman sa bahay namin so might as well sell it cheap to someone who'll use it. Dumating si Mamu nung Marso at isa sa aming destinasyon ay ang aming Mango Orchard sa Bagac, Bataan. Hactually, di amin ang Orchard, may limang puno lang kami dun, hehe. Pag lumaki na ang puno at namunga, we share the profit with the mga tagapag-alaga. Ang layo nga lang talaga, feeling ko more than six hours back and forth. Masayang alalahanin pero nakakalungkot din kasi bumalik na si Mamu sa Amerika kahapon. Naiyak nga kami ni Sister sa airport kasi more than 2 years na naming di nakita ang aming mader tapos sandali lang vacation nya. Sa states, Mamu works at Walgreens and Littmans Jewelry store. Uso kasi dun more than 1 job. Sa sales sya in both companies at proudly lagi syang number 1 sa sales. Dun daw, you do everthing, ikaw na nag-sales talk, ikaw pa din ang magpapasok ng benta at mag-operate ng kaha. Napapagod na raw sya but she like the benefits of working, bukod sa nakakalibang, ok ang health insurance at ok ang kita. Sa mga lakaran namin dito, ako pagod na pero sya high energy pa din.

Nanay, my lola, passed away just before Christmas. It was a sad time for us. I also realized a person cannot die with dignity. Once dead, you are wrapped in a blanket, stationed near the hospital exit awaiting pickup from the morgue, and referred to as a cadaver. You have a window of four hours from the time of death until you become cold and rigid. Meaning, di na nila mababago position mo (unless they break something).

My sister called me up 2AM in the morning crying. Yung pag-ring pa lang ng phone in that unholy hour, I knew already she was gone.

My lola was brought to the hospital after suffering a stroke. Di na sya nakakadilat nor nakapagsasalita but she would shed tears whenever any one from family would talk to her. She also cried when the nurse inserted a feeding tube through her nose. I couldn’t bear to watch. Di ko rin sya makausap kasi naiiyak ako so I had to leave the room and just told Jor-el to talk to her for me. A priest also came to visit her. She died six hours after.

During the funeral, all of my lola’s four children were asked to eulogize. Dahil nasa Amerika si Mommy, ako na lang daw. I stood up and just bawled. Di rin ako nakapagsalita.

My Uncles arrived from Montreal and New Jersey. Siempre masaya to see them again at katakot-takot na pasalubong, kainan, reunions, at outings. Malungkot kasi they came home to bury the ashes of their brother, my uncle who passed away last June. At one point of the funeral mass, I felt extreme sadness at tuloy-tuloy tulo ng luha ko. It's been a long while since I've cried kaya naipon siguro and it chose to flow at this opportune time.

Taken during our convention last September 6-8. Although tatlong araw lang ito eh July pa kami nagpe-prepare. Kami kasi ang gumawa ng software that would process and register more than a thousand attendees of the convention. Medyo hi-tech kasi each computer ay may nakakabit na webcam and it takes the picture of each delegate and prints the pic on their IDs. Ginawa rin namin election software nila. Pang-touchscreen sana where they can just make pindot-pindot on the monitor kung sino boboto nila kaso di na kinaya ng budget nila to provide us with the special monitors. Sayang!

Dahil kaibigan ko yung isa sa mga officers ng association eh I volunteered to man the registration and election booths for the whole duration of the convention. Naalala ko tuloy nung nasa UP pa ko, registration volunteer din ako dun, RVC pa nga tawag sa amin eh.

Pero stressful sya sobra. I had to wake up early and sleep late just to make sure okay ang lahat. There were technical glitches kaming na-experience which up to now boggles my mind. Naisip ko these were caused by the hardware supplier not following the specs na binigay namin. Pero there’s no way to know for sure, kakainis! And now, I’m sick. I went to the spa last night because my right arm and shoulder were killing me. I overexerted myself when Sweetham and I and mga kapatid went bowling na may pustahan. He he, di sulit pagsakit ng balikat ko kasi ang baba ng score ko, di man lang umabot ng 100. Talo tuloy kami. I used to be good at this, back when I was still employed and the office would have teams competing against each other. Dito nga kami nagsimula ni Sweetham kasi mahilig din sya mag-bowling and inuumaga kami kakalaro. Heniways, nalalayo ako sa aking nais sabihin. Dun sa spa, may Christmas lights na. Then kaninang tanghali, I went to National Book Store today kasi sale!!! Book prices at much as 50% off. Heniweys again, may Christmas tree na. Sa Rustan's ganun din. Ako na lang ata ang wala pang Christmas decor. Mabuti pa ang ibang diwata, nagsimula na yuletide season nila. Di bale, bukas na bukas din, tatayo ko na din sa aming bahay ang aking mini-Christas tree!!! Promise!

High School Life ay exciting, kay saya!

Met with my high school barkada and classmates last Friday night. Sa Teriyaki Boy Eastwood (suggested it, hehe, favorite ko kasi) kami lahat nag-dinner. Before the reunion, after my meeting with a client, uwi muna ako to take a bath and choose outfit. Siempre, tagal ko na di nakita my classmates kaya extra effort sa pag-aayos. Met up first with my barkada Techie and Jessica sa Monte Vista bago sabay na kami in one van to go to Eastwood. Puro daldalan, ha ha. After dinner, hanap kami ng venue for our picture taking (as if di pa enough yung sankaterbang pictures while eating dinner) and found a stairway. Tamang-tama, paakyat si Jericho Rosales (sh?t ang gwapo! Anyways, he’s a local artista who did a remake of ‘Ang Panday” for TV) and nahila namin sya to join our picture-taking. Ang aking mga sosyal na classmates, naging baduy, ha ha After dinner, coffee sa Seattle’s Best (pero ako chocolate drink) then inuman at Dencio’s (pero ako soda lang… kj eh). Hay, nice to meet up with old friends and reminisce and update and swap kwentos!
I was able to snag a copy of my high school annual picture. He he, mukhang tokneneng ang itsura. According to my annual, I was an “efficient prompter of seatmate”. Bukod sa nagdidikta ako sa mga kaklase ko during recitation, nagpapakopya pa ko. Eh one time, yung nangopya sa kin, essay yon, sakto ang pagkakakopya. Eto pa, hindi sinoli sa kin ang papel ko kundi sya na ang nagpass. Eh di magkasunod ang papel namin, ayun, nahuli ng teacher. Pinatawag kaming dalawa at tinanong kung sino sa amin ang nangopya. Di ko nga sinagot, nakakainsulto ang tanong eh. Ayun, bagsak ako sa World History, nyok!

Nung Biernes, pumunta ako sa Saint Luke’s hospital to submit my urine sample (collected over a 24-hour period). Ni-collect ko urine at nilagay sa isang wine bottle. May dala pa akong cooler with ice ha to keep the specimen fresh. Yung mga kasabay ko, cup lang ang mga dala eh ako isang bote, he he. Aligaga ang mga tao sa ospital nuon at daming cameras and media people dahil naka-confine si GMA since yesterday. Hmmph sumabay pa sa akin, hirap tuloy makapasok. Hinarang pa nga wine bottle ko at bawal daw yung sa loob, sabi ko di wine yun kundi urine sample… hayyy. Hinihintay ko nga na may mag-interview sa akin eh para masabi ko naman ang aking reaction a biglang pagkahospital at aking message para kay GMA. Sasabihin ko na sana ay magpagaling sya agad at ipagdadasal ko na mabuhay pa sya ng matagal at ng matigil sa pag-salivate ang mga taong gustong alisin sya. Heniweys, nag-taxi lang kami ni sister to St. Luke's. Si Manong driver, bright yellow ang buhok. Character baga. Halatang mong fun syang tao pati sa pagkekwento. At pag may nakatabi sa kalye na taxi din, binabati nya yung driver nun. Ok tong si Manong pwedeng manalo ng Mr. Congeniality. Sayang di ko nakunan ng picture, kakainis…

Eulogy-a spoken or written composition in praise of a person’s life

My Lolo Tisyo (my dad’s uncle) passed away last week. My sister and I went to the wake and joined in the “paghahatid” (convoy from the memorial chapel to the burial site). At the site, the family released butterflies and balloons. All the butterflies flew away except for one who lingered near my lolo’s casket. It was the butterfly released by my Lola Miling (my Lolo Tisyo’s wife).

My Uncle Cesar, my lolo’s eldest son was tasked with giving the eulogy. Listening to him speak evoked memories of my father. When my dad passed away years ago, the task of giving the eulogy was assigned to me. I found an empty bench and began with a blank notebook, trying to list all of my father’s qualities, one on every page then expounding on each. My Kuya, upon seeing the several pages that I have completed commented “wag sobrang haba, mga ten minutes lang”. My task then became difficult--- how do you sum up a man’s life in ten minutes? Impossible. Unless you take out all the details and you’re left with just the frame of the life he has lived. At the church, I think it took me longer than ten minutes to say my piece because I broke down in tears several times. Looking back, the trip to the hospital, the wake, the eulogy, the interment, those were easy. The most difficult part was coming home and he wasn’t there anymore.

Sweet Ham with my pamangkin Dominque on a Dinosaur ride

Was able to score free tickets to Enchanted Kingdom when we watched the movie "Exodus" starring Bong Revilla last December. Sarap sa enchanted. The 4D theater-"Bane Manor" haunted house was so scary, napabulahaw ng iyak ang aking pamangking si JC while watching. I love the Rio Grande ride- parang white water rafting. There was also a 3d ride na cartoons-- remember Wacky Races? Si Dick Dastardly and Muttley? Also Yogi Bear and the Jetsons? The lines were so long kasi we went on a Saturday but sulit! Also not as tiring kasi I got to rest while waiting in line. I love, love, love amusement parks :)

Remember when... Flashback 1985... Josie's debut

Watched concert of Jose Marie Chan last night. Not a powerful belter but a soothing and cool singing voice. I don’t know why but it always makes me feel good after listening to his songs, parang life is so beautiful. Grabe, na-miss ko music nya. Will buy his Golden Hits CD when I get the chance. Kagabi sana eh at may libre autograph and picture pa with him kaya lang nagmamadali kami kasi punta pa kami casino, he he --- slot machine lang naman ang kaya kong laruin dun, won 500 pesos, yey!!!

Weird food but you get to like it after a while
Finished at the spa after 12 ng madaling araw so we decided to get some breakfast. This coffee shop has been featured on TV, food served is Singaporean. Softboiled eggs with soy sauce and French Toast with Pandan jam. Yummmmy!
